In order to run a website, you need to have basically two components. One is the domain name that people will enter into their browser to access your website. The other is the web hosting that holds the files on your website and delivers content to your site\'s visitors. In this tutorial, we will describe how to purchase and set up a domain name to go with your Crossmap.net hosting account.

Step 1: Register for a Crossmap.net hosting accout
We will assume that you already have a Crossmap.net hosting account. As soon as you register your domain name with us, we set up set up our DNS server to receive your domain name. This means that when you purchase and configure your domain name to point to our DNS servers, users will be able to access the files on your account.

Step 2: Choose a registrar and purchase your domain
For this tutorial, you can purchase a domain name through domain registration site like DNbuy.com. Enter your domain name in the search, and when you find the domain name you like that is available, purchase it as you would any other item online. Visa and Mastercard are both accepted. (DNbuy.com is an example. It is not absolute way to purchase your domain.)

Step 3: Login to your account and set up the DNS information.
Now that the domain name is purchased and under your control, you must tell the domain name to direct users to the Crossmap.net servers. You must change the DNS information on your account to reflect our DNS servers. On the DNbuy website, click on the "search, register and manage domain names" link. From there, login to your account with your domain name and password that was sent to your email upon the purchase of your domain name.



Once you are in the domain administration area, click on the "Nameservers" link. On the nameservers drop-down menu, choose the "Your own name servers" option. In the custom nameservers fields, enter "ns.kenosys.com" and "ns1.kenosys.com" for the Crossmap nameservers. Click on the "modify" button to complete this step.
